How To Join Us

Who can participate?

Participation is open to researchers:

  • from universities, research centres, large and small, public and private organisations from all COST Member Countries and its Cooperating State
  • from any science and technology field
  • at any career stage

who have an interest in the topic of COST Action BM1201 and the potential ability to contribute to the goals of this Action.

Currently there are

  • 35 COST Member Countries: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and
  • One Cooperating State: Israel
  • 18 COST Near Neighbour Countries: Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Georgia, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Russia, Syria, Tunisia, and Ukraine

How to join this COST Action BM1201

There are several different procedures to join this COST Action, which depend mainly on the location of your institution.

> Institutions from the 35 COST Member Countries and the Cooperating State:

a) If your country is not yet part of this Action BM1201

  • contact your the COST National Coordinator (CNC) of your country who can launch your country's participation procedure in this Action. A list of CNCs can be found on
    Once done, the CNC can officially nominate you as a representative of your country to the Managment Committee (MC).
  • it is also recommended that you inform the Chair of this Action.
  • At this stage the current MC of his COST Action BM1201 will vote whether or not the Action shall include the new

b) If your country already participates in this Action please 

  • contact the Action Chair for possible nomination by the Management Committee (MC) to a Working Group (WG).

> Institutions from Near Neighbour Countries:

If you are from an institution in a  and can participate in a Near Neighbouring Country you can participate in this Action on the basis of mutual benefit (see Vademecum - 1.2.2 and 1.2.3), to be approved by the COST Office in Brussels on a case-by-case basis.
Once their participation is approved, researchers from these countries can participate but have no right to vote in the Management Committee of the Action. They are considered as Management Committee Observers (with no right to vote).
However, your are eligible for reimbursement.

> Institutions from Argentina, New Zealand and South Africa:

In addition, researchers from Argentina, New Zealand and South Africa may join COST Actions and participate in their networking activities on the basis of mutual benefit - thanks to Reciprocal Agreements signed by COST with these countries.
